2025 St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair

The 65th annual St. Mary’s County Science and Engineering Fair was held on Friday, January 17th 2025. The Fair was held for the first time at the Southern Maryland Autonomous Research and Technology (SMART) Building, on the Campus of the University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland (USMSM) in California, Maryland. There were 135 projects entered in the Fair, with a total of 142 student competitors.

The Senior Category Grand Award winners were Collin Haycraft with his project Sky High Service (S.H.S) and the Team of Rishi Sheth/Stephen Krasznay with their project MiniOpto.  Junior Category Grand Award winners were Thomas Fucito with his project Vortex Generator Effects on Critical AOA, and Tea Combs with her project Fuzzy Companion

Special Awards were also presented to students by many of our supporting organizations and sponsors. These monetary and other awards recognized discipline specific scientific excellence.

Many of our judges shared that they were extremely impressed with the quality of the projects and the scientific knowledge of this year’s participants. Once again, St. Mary’s County will again have an excellent contingent of students participating at the Prince Georges Regional Science and Engineering Fair. This Fair will take place on March 14th with project setup and the competition will be held on the 15th.
