St. Mary’s students rise above at science fair regionals

Students from St. Mary’s County excelled at the Prince George’s County Regional Science and Engineering Fair on March 15.

Thirty-one St. Mary’s students competed against students from Prince George’s, Charles and Calvert counties.

St. Mary’s students swept all three Junior Grand Awards and two of three Senior Grand Awards.

St. Mary’s County students also earned many first- and second-place Category Awards, while 16 students in the Junior Division won Special Awards while 13 students won Special Awards for their projects in the Senior Division.

 

The St. Mary’s County Senior Division team of Abril Esparza and Angela Hou won first place for the Grand Award and Audrey Gutekunst took the Grand Award second place.

In the Junior Division, Nathan Nilsson won first place in Grand Award while Diana Wyman and Kyler Cotugno took second and third, respectively.

The Senior Division Grand Award winners will advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held May 10-16 in Columbus, Ohio.
